Our "Advanced" report looks at issues that separate amateur songs from pro-written songs.
We compare your song against current chart toppers, against like lyrics (either one you specify, or if you do not specify, we will pick an appropriate "like" song).
We look at how richly you utilize literary devices. We view this as a particularly important analysis. Many (if not most) songwriters do not have creative writing degrees. They (we) are not schooled in the use (and usefulness) of literary devices. But by running your songs through the Lyric Review Service, you will be learning about these devices—many of which you may well use without knowing it. The best example of that is synecdoche which you no doubt employ constantly. The more literary devices you know, the stronger writer you will be.
Does your lyric leaves the listener wondering how certain lines connect to earlier lines. We look for that (non sequiturs).
We look at whether there is redundant information in your song. Does each verse and the bridge (if one) advance the story line or is it just the same ol' same ol'?
Are you "writing to the hook"? In other words, do verses and bridge relate directly to you hook?
And finally, does your song have multiple themes? Maybe you can pull that off, but given the compressed nature of a lyric, doing so generally undermines the effectiveness of your lyric.
